I. We write in the past tense, third person subjective, the style found in most of your favorite novels. Think of it as writing a collaborative story, but only writing from your characters’ points of view. Don’t forget, other players have agendas and plans for their characters too, so be flexible to the ever-shifting settings of the game and try to go with the flow if things don’t work out exactly as you wanted them too. Seeing how the story evolves and having an effect on it yourself is half the fun!
We strive for fair play here. No powergaming is allowed. For RPG newbies, Powergaming can be defined “never allowing your character to be hit and/or never taking serious damage from an attack.” Neither should you powerplay, or control other peoples’ characters without permission.
II. In instances where you are having a disagreement with another player, talk to them first and try to work things out. Maybe you don’t understand what’s been posted, or maybe they have a good reason for doing this. If the issue cannot be resolved, then approach a Moderator and ask for help. But do not go running to the authorities as soon as something happened that you don’t like—the mature thing to do would be to attempt to work things out with the other player first.
III. This game is set 100 years in the future, where Earth is a part of the Cybertronian Council of Worlds. The events in a roleplay thread are dated to the date they're posted. For example, if you started a roleplay thread on January 1, 2020 its events would be said to occur on January 1, 2120. When you start a thread for anyone to join, put “AW” for All Welcome somewhere in the title. If the thread is exclusively for you and someone else, put in a P for Private. Threads marked as private do not necessarily mean that no one else can read them; it just means that they are not free for anyone to post in.
IV. Creative plotting is highly encouraged! Use the OoC Chatterbox to collaborate and plan out plots.
V. Apply for new characters in this thread. You can play up to three Personal Characters (PCs). After gaining a new character, you cannot apply for another new one until you have made good with the character(s) you already have for at least two months. The staff reserves the rights to restrict you from acquiring a new character if we feel you haven’t been effectively playing the ones you already have. Once you have a character approved, post their profile in appropriate board and include a link to it in your forum signature.
VI. Reference images for your characters are encouraged, but not necessary. Given the disparate lines of technological evolution over millions of years of warfare and diaspora, players are welcome to use reference images from Generation One, Prime, Beast Wars, the Unicron Trilogy, and even Bayformers to represent their characters. If you want to "repurpose" a really obscure toy into your own character, that's fine by us too!
VII. If you want to create an NPC for the game, such as a companion or spouse for your character, you can apply for an NPC as you could a Personal Character in the same thread applications thread. The bio of an NPC does not have to be as in-depth as a PC and you must have a PC to “attach” the NPC to. When a NPC is approved, post its bio in the same profile thread as the PC sponsoring it. You can have as many NPCs as you want, within reason.
VIII. We're not going to be anal about posting activity, just try to be reliable for your fellow players, okay? If you have to leave for a little while, please notify the staff and we will place you on absence. Failure to post as your characters within a month without proper notice to the Moderating Staff will result in you being marked inactive; you must reapply to have your status reactivated.
IX. All players are required to keep a post log along with the profile of each Personal Character. A post log lists and links to all the threads that a character has been in chronologically. Other information—such as summaries of the events within the threads or lists of the other characters within the threads—would be nice, but we won’t hold you to it.
X. Shipping is welcome! It can be a lot of fun to partner your character with another player's. But for decency’s sake we will request that you please keep things PG. If you’re going to have your characters do any hanky panky, do a “fade to black” and use your imaginations. We're taking the IDW approach to Cybertronian gender; that it's mostly for social convention and they're entirely sexless. No "plug and play" here, nosiree.
